| The Way of The Thief. |
| Thieves prefer hiding in the shadows and backstabbing their foes in surprize attacks rather than engaging in prolonged physical combat. They also enjoy picking locks and pilfering the possesions of other characters by stealing, mugging and setting traps. Thieves are also able to form psionic disciplines, however, they draw upon their health points each time they form a discipline. Thieves must have sufficient agility to set and disarm traps, sufficient strength to backstab and sufficient intelligence to form the disciplines. Thieves make good coiners, retrievers of death piles, looters, and scouts for checking lairs. Follow parties around, if its on the floor and not worth picking up , transmute it for cash. Carry out a sack of coins. If you become encumbered, your Agility is reduced as well. The favorite weapons of the Thief are shortbow, shortsword, crossbow and dagger. The Profession gains an extra attack at the 8th experience level. Theives also gain the use of certain disciplines. Roll your character's stats until you have rolled 18's on Luck and Charisma. The rest of the stats can be fixed with pots later on. Might take you a while but well worth the wait. The Thief's main stats are Strength, Intelligence and Agility so look for high numbers in these also. Go to the Thief Trainer thru the secret passage in the Steel Flower and dedicate to the profession of Thief. Come back to the Thief Train often and pay for your training. Class Train here as well. You will gain the ability to Hide in shadows as darkness becomes your ally. Factors for hiding include Agility, skill level, experience level of crit being hid from and proximity to walls. At skill 12, you can hide from most crits. Darkness, LimInvis and Hiding will allow yout to Backstab more effieciently. Hide starts at about skill 4 or skill 5. Backstabbing is the Thief's favorite attack and one of the most powerful in the game. Backstabbing while hiding yeilds a devastating blow and begins at skill level 8. You can backstab any time crit can not see you. If you are fast moving, they can't see you. You may backstab with any object even coins and scrolls. Stealing is another of the Thief's habits. Hiding before stealing greatly increases your chance of securing the valubles of the mark. Use a stealing from macro to speed up the process of snatching another character's cash and items. Start stealing in Nork -1 dungeons until you are skill level 4 then steal in Nork -2. Stealing from monsters is greatly encouraged while stealing from other players is not. If you are discovered while stealing, you will not recieve skill gain. Setting traps is a Thief only talent while disarming traps is not. Traps of various skill levels can be purchased from some of the shadier merchants in the towns at the Thieves Guild. You must have the skill level to set certain traps. The merchant will not sell you a trap above your skill level. To set a trap, buy one and chose a location to set it. Hold the trap in your right hand. You can also disquise a trap like an object you possess. Hold item to be copied in your left hand. Set a trap, type in the command in this order: trap (experience level) (direction) (flags) (item) Setting traps with no experience in the command will place a full power trap down. The direction of the trap being set is up to you to decide and the flags refer to the conditions under the trap will activate. Carrying activates if crit is carrying the described item. Not Carrying activates if crit is not carrying the described item. Wearing activates if crit is wearing the described item. Not Wearing activates if crit is not wearing the described item. The described item can be anything that you are holding in your left hand. A Thief is never hurt by their own traps as they can be picked up and reset at a different location. Traps if dropped before they are set are instantly destroyed. If a neutral crit is killed in your trap, you will suffer an alignment penalty same as if you struck down the crit with your dagger. You will recieve experience points if you are close enough to the trap when it kills its target. Traps should not be used to injure other players at any time. |
